Jason Welch: The Making of a Captain 

Jason Welch is the head wrestling coach at San Francisco State University and runs a series of summer camps for kids of all ages. 

Before his current role at SF State, Welch competed on the international wrestling circuit for the Chicago RTC and Titan Mercury Wrestling Club. He has held coaching postions at Northwestern Univeristy, Loyola Academy, and also received an MFA in Creative Writing from Bennington College and is in progress on a novel.  

 

Welch graduated from Northwestern in 2013, where he was a captain of the wrestling team for two years, a 3x All-American (6th 4th 2cnd), NCAA Finalist, and Big 10 Champ. During this time he studied English Literature and Creative Writing. 

Welch grew up in Walnut Creek, CA, outside San Francisco. At Las Lomas High School he was a 3x CA State Champ, 4x Finalist, and Dan Hodge Trophy Winner, given to the best all-around high school senior in the country. 

 

Welch also participated in varsity soccer his junior and senior years, and was an all-county D-Tackle for the Knights who finished their football season with Welch 13-1 his senior year
